Checks for the Flashback malware. Keep safe from viruses and spyware.Of course, I'm runniing a full system scan now to double-check.OK this problem happened again: Automatic Antivirus Protection was unexpectedly turned OFF. I presume Automatic Antivirus Protection just failed at some point and left itself turned off. (I presume it would have required an Administrator password if I had accidentally selected to turn it OFF.)1) Is there a known bug that might cause this to happen?2) Are there other message strings I should search for in Console > All Messages to try to spot WHEN this happened?I've no reason to believe my computer is compromised. And of course I have no recollection of turning this off myself.Checking in NAV > View Reports I see that LIve Update installed the 111115002 Virus Definition Update *BEFORE* I opened up Norton Antivirus to check on the status of Automatic Antivirus Protection. Everything is up to date in NAV for Mac 12.2) I had just Restarted the Mac. NOTE: You need to be logged into an account with Administrator privileges to see all the possible messages in Utilities > Console.1) I'm on Lion 10.7.2. Backuptrans android whatsapp to iphone transfer for mac serialNOTE: I have NAV installed, not NIS.7) Symantec Error Reporting is throwing periodic messages ALL saying that it had 0 errors to submit.8) Nothing relevant is found in User or System Diagnostic Reports or Crash Reporter.Once again THIS FAILURE IS NASTY, because there is no indication in the Norton Quick Menu icon in the Mac menu bar indicating anything is wrong. This is already being discussed in the NIS 5 Vulnerability Protection thread. I Restarted the Mac again, logged in to my Administrator account, and checked around in Utilities > Console5) There are no crash reports related to Symantec producs since I installed Lion.6) There are no Antivirus Protection related messages in Console since that Restart where I detected the problem, nor during the span of the prior Restart (during which I checked and confirmed several times that Automatic Antivirus Protection was ON as it was supposed to be).6) Vulnerability Protection is throwing periodic error -34 messages. It properly required an Administrator password to do this.4) My normal log-in account does not have Administrator privileges. This could also explain why this failure doesn't happen on every Restart: I.e., it can only fail if there happens to be an update to install when the automatic check happens as part of a Restart.3) Upon opening NAV, it showed the status of Automatic Antivirus Protection as OFF. I've no way to know whether it turned OFF before or after that definition install. No error messages, no relevant diagnostic reports.I could see the Symantec Diagnostic Reporter starting up and saying it had 0 items to send. There was nothing useful in there. Live Update of course says everything is fine.I logged out and logged back in as an Administrator and spent some quality time pouring through the Console messages and logs. Note that I did not have to turn them ON they came back ON by themselves.I restarted another time and NAV 12 was still good to go. And AFTER that, NAV 12 was functioning normally again - Automatic Virus Protection and Idle Scan both ON. In the time that had passed a new Virus Definition update became available and that loaded. And no crash reports.I restarted and logged back in as my normal account. But no errror messages in Console indicating why that would not work. I wasn't having any problems with it, but due to the severe problems reported by other folks Apple retracted the Delta update and instructed people to use the Combo update instead.So I just downloaded and installed the Combo update on top of my previous install.After downloading it, I Restarted the Mac prior to doing the install. That worked without problems. Both of those are reported as loading without error.So either 28038 screwed up the Scan Engine or there is some sort of race condition at boot up which occassionally keeps the Scan Engine from starting.Either way, this is NASTY as there is no indication anything is wrong unless you think to start up NAV manually and check to see if the protections are live.Some possibly related behavior to report:I had previously installed the OS X 10.7.3 Delta update via Software Update. The Virus Definition Update which just loaded was 29002. I can’t even run a manual scan as none of the option (Quick Scan, System Scan or File Scan) would respond.
